A project of the Women & Politics Institute at American University, Gender on the Ballot is a nonpartisan effort to examine and contextualize gender dynamics in politics. As the conversation and culture around running for office in the United States evolves, Gender on the Ballot contributes to the national dialogue on gender and politics through accessible content from experts and practitioners.

GOTB’s Student Blog is for post-secondary, undergraduate and graduate students. Submitting a student blog to GOTB can have several benefits, including: visibility in a high profile online publication, extension of your scholarly and/or practical experiences related to women and politics to a new audience, and an opportunity to share your knowledge and insight with others committed to closing the gender gap in political leadership. You may even receive extra academic credit (this is entirely up to your professors, not GOTB).

GUIDELINES

Here are the guidelines for student contributors:

• Include your full name, institution of postsecondary education, major and contact information.

• Please keep all contributions to 500 words.

• Submitting a blog does not guarantee publication – the timing, content, space and other considerations may prevent the publication of all submissions.

• GOTB reserves the right to edit submissions for length or content.

• GOTB is neither an academic journal nor an Op-Ed/Opinion piece. Keep your submission informative and evidence-based, not written for a peer-reviewed journal or editorial.

• Content should be at a high school reading level so it stays accessible to a wide audience.

• All content must be nonpartisan and cannot indicate support for any candidate(s) over another.

• Analysis should focus on the intersection of gender and politics.

• The formatting can be longform or a listicle.

• If you would like to use any images, please include the source and ensure the image is in the public domain.

• For any citations in the piece, hyperlink to the original source.
