Gender at the Maine Primary

Vice President Joe Biden narrowly pulled out an upset win over Bernie Sanders who won the state of Maine with 64% in 2016.

What do we know about the women of Maine who voted in the Democratic primary on Super Tuesday?

In terms of turnout, women once again made up a majority of Democratic primary voters – totaling 59% of the electorate.

Joe Biden can thank the women of Maine for his victory over the Senator from the neighboring state of Vermont.  The 8 point gender gap in their support for Biden coupled with their large turnout was enough for Biden to eek out a 1 point win over Sanders.
